Using Ferry
Ferry lets you send files and text between devices. By using it you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.
Your content
What you send goes directly from one device to another, encrypted. Ferry does not receive it, cannot see it and cannot recover it for you. You are responsible for what you send and for having the right to send it. You keep all rights in your files.
Accounts
You do not need an account to send or receive a file. An account is optional and adds held files, a history and a dashboard. Sign-in is handled by our sign-in provider, listed on the subprocessors page. You must give a real email address, keep your sign-in secure, and tell us if someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens under it. You can delete your account and its data from your settings at any time.
Held files
A held file is sealed in your browser before it leaves your device, then stored encrypted so that someone can open it later. The key stays in the link you share, and in a password if you add one, so Ferry cannot read the file and cannot recover it if the link or the password is lost. A held file is kept until the expiry you chose, at most 7 days, or until you remove it. After that it is deleted and cannot be restored. Held files count against the storage limit of your plan while they are live. You must not use held files to store or distribute anything listed in the acceptable use policy.
Plans and payment
There is a free plan and one paid plan, Pro, at $9 a month in US dollars. Extra storage is $1 a month for each 10 GB, on any plan. Limits for each plan are shown on the pricing page and in your dashboard. Prices and limits can change. A change does not alter what you have already paid for, and we tell you before it affects your account.
While accounts are opening slowly, payment is manual. There is no card form and nothing is charged automatically. You ask for a plan from your dashboard, we reply by email with payment details, and we apply the plan once we receive payment. A plan runs for the period you paid for and does not renew by itself. You can ask us to cancel at any time by writing to us. If you believe you were charged by mistake, write to us and we will look into it.
The student plan
The student plan gives the Pro plan to people who are studying, for $4 a month in US dollars, paid the same way as other plans. We check eligibility by hand, from your school email address, school and course, and we check again once a year. We may end the student plan if you are no longer a student or if the information you gave was not true. Your account then moves to the free plan, and any held files above the free limit stop being available until you remove files or change plan.
What you must not do
- Send content that is illegal where you or the receiver are.
- Send malware, or use Ferry to harm or gain access to someone else’s device.
- Interfere with the service, for example by flooding it with requests or guessing other people’s transfer codes.
- Use Ferry to harass anyone or to violate their privacy.
Only accept files you expect
Join transfers only from people you trust, and check the security code when Ferry asks you to. Treat received files like any other download and scan them if you are unsure.
Availability
Ferry is provided as it is, with no promise that it will always be available or that every transfer will complete. Transfers depend on your devices, your browsers and your network. Features can change or be removed.
No warranty and limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, Ferry comes with no warranties of any kind, and Shola Jegede is not liable for lost data, failed transfers, or any indirect or consequential loss that results from using it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Ending use
You can stop using Ferry at any time. We can limit or suspend an account, a device or a key that breaks these terms or the acceptable use policy, and we try to tell you why when we do. If we end your access for another reason, we tell you before we do so where we can.
Privacy
The privacy policy explains what data is stored and for how long.
Changes
If these terms change, the new version is posted here with a new date.
